Sion Orgon

Sion Orgon is an experimental musician, composer, singer, songwriter, studio engineer and avant garde artist from Cardiff, Wales.

A  long time collaborator with Thighpaulsandra (Coil and Julian Cope) and full time member of Rocketgoldstar, appearing on eight Thighpaulsandra releases, five Rocketgoldstar releases and touring extensively throughout the UK and Internationally.

He has written and produced three solo studio works and has collaborated with many artists, including Peter Christopherson, Mike Edwards (Jesus Jones), Andrew Liles, Damo Suszuki (Can) and Stylus.

Sion’s debut album Orgonised Chaos released in 2004 was championed by BBC Radio 3′s left of field music programme, Mixing It, who invited him to record a 3 track session at BBC Maidavale. The session received great feedback…

“… fine commercial recordings by Sion Orgon (real-world sounds warped until they sound like avant-garde chamber music)”. (Reverberent BBC Stream, – Marc Weidenbaum)

“Found Sounds and field recordings balance electronics and conventional instruments in a melange of emotion and experience.” (The Wire, December 2005)

In 2008 a second album was released on the Lumberton Trading Company Record label, entitled The Zsigmondy Experience.

The Zsigmondy Experience follows the release of Orgonised Chaos, Orgon’s debut album of experimental electronics released on Experimental Seafood a few years back. Once again, Sion Orgon involves a whole bunch of Welsh artists including members of Rocketgoldstar, Thighpaulsandra, Mike Edwards (formerly of Jesus Jones) alongside Peter Christopherson of Coil, TG and SoiSong, Seb Goldfinch and others. The Zsigmondy Experience clearly continues Orgon’s predilection for obtuse and strange sounds but, this time, he’s wrapped them around some appealing sprawling songs that take in string sections, pop song melodies, with elements of dark ambient, industrial, prog elctronics and vocoded vocals. That it doesn’t actually fit into any of those genres is what make The Zsigmondy Experience so compelling. I’ll make no bones about it, this is a great album” (Compulsion Online)

As a session musician for Welsh language acts such as MC Mabon and Geraint Jarman, as well as Experimental artists Thighpaulsandra and Coil, his most recent session work was playing drums on the William D Drake (Cardiacs) album, Rising Of The Lights.

Also known for his work as a mixing and mastering Engineer, Sion has worked on tracks and albums for Merzbow, Peter Christopherson, Faust, Steven Severin, Theme, Zsolt, Sores, Michael Gira, Nick Mott, , Cindy Talk, Rolf Harris and many more.
